James Bond Locations in the Bahamas | FOUND!
Hello all, I promised you all in the latest vlog that I’d give you some Google coordinates to all the James Bond locations in the Bahamas. You can catch the full vlog below in case you missed it.
The video is more of a travel guide than a style guide but I’ll link to some products from the brands of James Bond that I wore on my travels at the footer below.
ARRIVAL in BAHAMAS
James Bond arrives by sea plane because it looks sexy. He touches down outside the Atlantis Hotel that you can see in the background. So if you’ve arrived by Cruise Ship you’ll go over Sidney Poitier Bridge to get to the Atlantis.
Our taxi driver told us that it was The Atlantis in Dubai that was featured in Casino Royale, which I found hard to believe as the Dubai Atlantis was opened two years after the release of Casino Royale. I didn’t correct him.
BOND IN DISGUISE
After Bond arrives, he picks up a Ford Rental and drives to what was then the One and Only club, which is now the Ocean Club under Four Seasons management.
You’ll notice he’s actually in disguise here as costume designer Lindy Hemming gave him a shirt with epaulettes so he could pass as a security guard.
EN ROUTE
So here Bond drives past Compass Point hotels, distinguished by the colourful wall and multi coloured annex roofs. Sadly that wall has now been painted over and looks a bit more austere.
LOVE BEACH
Now this is Love Beach, the other side of Compass Point. This is where Bond pins Vargos to the tree in Thunderball. You won’t find the tree a lot of the landscape and locations have changed over the years due to hurricanes.
But I did get some sand in a bottle to add to my Bond beach collection.
PALMYRA
Palmyra which was Largo’s gaff in Thunderball, is locked up and patrolled by two very hungry looking dogs. This is how the shark pool looks now. You can see this from the breakwater.
THE CAVES
Also opposite Palmyra, are the caves which features in a brief scene that Bond comes out and gets picked up by Fiona Vulpe. Some men don’t like being taken for a ride. I’ve always liked that line.
THE OCEAN CLUB
So here we are at the Ocean Club. Now you can visit here as a guest if you’re eating and drinking in their bars and restaurants. but the pools and beaches are exclusive to the guests.
As I mentioned before they switched management from One and Only in 2017 and featured in the film were the driveway martini bar that was converted into a casino and lounge Versaille pool, beach and 4 bedroom hibiscus villa.
POOR SOLANGE
I found the Solange hammock (pictured below) although resisted the urge of doing any mutilated poses.
THE MARTINI BAR
That piano is where the poker table was and they have some nice photos dotted around. They’re very proud of the Bond association it seems.
So this is the bar that they did the poker scene in.
PAST SECURITY
This is the car park that Bond crashes the 4 by 4 in. I actually took this photo then got told to beat it by the security guards which is absolutely fair enough
WATERBREAKER
So then we got the shuttle over to Atlantis, and this is to hunt down the Thunderball waterbreaker location.
And its easy enough to find between Cabbage beach and the resort. Its right by the lockers which you have to pay 17 bucks for. By the way if you’re not a guest at the hotel you’ll have to pay 135 bucks to get to this spot. Or 75 dollars for the beach pass.
SNEAKY BOND
My missus is the best by the way. So you’re not allowed down here. But we snuck down, if you’re attempting this be careful because its rough terrain. And we got the shot which was nice.
THE JUNKANOO
Back in Nassau now and we went looking for a couple of the Junkanoo street scenes.
WHERE TO EAT
And whilst you’re on that street check out the Matisse cafe for something to eat. Order the duck, not the ceviche.
OH MR BOND!
Now onto a few Never Say Never Again locations You’ll find this one easy enough down at the harbour where Nigel gives away Bonds identity.
I’VE GOT YOU ALL WET
Now just on from the harbour you’ll see this bar and grill which is about a year or so old. It was originally called The Never Say Never Again bar and grill because it’s in the spot where Bond meets Fatima Blush. The original waterfront is long gone.
BOND AS A PIRATE
It had to change its name thought because of licensing regulations, they don’t mess around at EON. But if you look carefully you can still see some original markings.
They had to repaint all the artwork inside also because it was all Bond related. Although one painting of Sean Connery they just painted over and made him into a pirate. This could be my favourite photo of the whole holiday.
GOVERNMENT HOUSE
There’s also this location close by the harbour, which is actually a government house so you’ll need to be quick to get your shot. It’s all remarkably similar to the movie with the exception of the wheelchair ram which is now in place.
Sean Connery passed away on the 31st October 2020, he lived in a gated community in Lyford Cay neighbourhood on New Providence.
ONE BOMBMAKER
OK here we go this is the construction site that was featured in the footchase Casino Royale. We hired a car to get here because its at the southwest tip of the island in Coral Harbour.
We parked up, asked if it was ok to get photos, the security took our passport details at one point I thought they were going to let us in, but that was just false optimism on my part.
STOP TOUCHING YOUR EAR
Now if you turn south from the construction site and follow the beach down you’ll get to a really cool location. This is the snakepit/mongoose fight scene.
HOLSTER THE BLOODY WEAPON CARTER
This sent to me by @benjamindwaters
In a fight between a mongoose and a cobra, the mongoose would likely win. It is generally believed that a mongoose wins around 80% of their battles with snakes. The mongoose wins because it has a very good strategy.
NEVER GO IN THERE WITHOUT A MONGOOSE
The mongoose will provoke the snake by biting its tail and lunging at it until the snake is tired out.Jan 15, 2019
IF I FELT COMPELLED TO FIND HIM
Now the last location I wanted to see was the Albany House where Dimitrius lived. So this is a private resort that I think was founded by ernie eels and Tiger woods.
You can’t just rock up and have drinks here like you can in the ocean club unfortunately. However, if you head down to Stuarts Cove you can walk to this stretch of beach.
WHO THE DEVIL LIVES UP THERE
You’ll have a nice tour of some dilapidated buildings. On the other side of this pier is where the resort is and they have big double back – fuck off out of here signs so we didn’t go in.
But the sea is shallow enough so you can head all the way out and get a close-enough shot like we did. Careful not to get your cameras wet.
So that was fun.
We did speak to one guy who was out walking his dog and he said that the Albany is buying up all the beach on this side so soon enough, you won’t be able to get to even this point.
Anyway, so quick mention about my wardrobe.
THE BOND IN THE BAHAMAS LOOK
If you want to get the Bond look you can buy the Sunspel Riveira polo that Bond wore in the Ocean Club.
I’m also wearing my Sunspel pleated sea island navy trousers and straw trilby by Laird Hatters.
HAVE YOU GOT THE POINT?
There are some Camp Collar shirts by Mason And Sons and if you want to support British manufacturing then be sure to check out the Hemingsworth brand, I’m wearing their seersucker shorts here.
I did a separate feature on these shorts awhile back which you can find here.
All items gifted.
