I’ve often said to the wife, if I had money I’d either invest in a monorail that would take me from the kitchen to the shed, trainers that offered me an extra inch of height, and a good jacket collection. I have the makings of a burgeoning jacket collection, most of which are movie inspired.

Wanna be Tom
At one point I did own a screen worn brown suede Tom Cruise jacket, but unfortunately I had to give that up. If you’re wondering whether that was a painful moment for me in my life, your instincts serve you well Mr Bond.
On the subject of Tom Cruise, Z from Tie Another Day did a field report on the Mission Impossible 3 – Hunt’s Brown Deer Suede ‘Ethan’ Jacket that you can read here. I’ve long salivated over a jacket like that. I have a charcoal suede jacket, a light tan leather jacket, but not a brown suede jacket.

The Jacket Maker
Amongst the movie jackets I own currently, only the screen accurate Garage Jacket from No Time To Die has survived. Although it can be a jacket for most seasons, it really did come up small. Today I’d like to present my thoughts on a brown suede jacket from The Jacket Maker, a direct-to-consumer leather goods brand specializing in Ready-to-wear Men’s Leather Jackets and bespoke leather jackets.
The jacket is a heavy suede but incredibly soft to the touch. It has two press studs on the cuff for adjustable fit, but I tend to wear mine open, much like Daniel Craig did for his audition as James Bond when he forgot his cufflinks.

Details
What I love about this jacket is the slanted hip pockets as they come sans-zips. Nothing is more annoying for someone like myself who likes to put his hands in his pockets, to get them chaffed and scraped by zip lining.
On the inside also there are two deep pockets perfect for phone and wallet in either one. Although I tend carry a seperate man bag for that so as not to interrupt the lines of the jacket. Especially if the fit is perfect.

The Leather
The collar is ribbed with a slight elastane quality to it, so it hugs the neckline perfectly. I also like that the hem of the jacket is NOT ribbed, but panel stitched. A ribbed hem tends to suck the jacket up the chest, creating a bowing effect, and often the fit goes right out the window.
Overall, I can recommend The Jacket Maker. The quality of the leather which is commonly made of lamb, sheep, calf and cowhide, distinguishes it from many other brands currently on the market. The price point is accessible, and the service is very responsive online.

Seasons
I have paired this with just a common light grey tee and green linen trousers, and a blue ball cap from Grey Flannel. A perfect jacket for Spring or Autumn and a definite upgrade to my jacket collection.
