Vesper Lynd

In minutes 73& 74 we see Vesper Lynd entering the casino hall in her stunning purple plunge neck dress, designed by Roberto Cavalli. Her beauty was supposed to distract the other players at the table, however she has gone against Bond’s instructions and has entered the room in such a way that would only strain his attention and not theirs.

This further increases the cat and mouse game played between Bond and Vesper. Each time Bond tries to establish some higher ground, Vesper is quick to establish herself as the one in control. She’s not just along here for the ride, she’s here to ensure Bond and the governments money, are controlled equally and professionally.

Whilst Bond raises the stakes he is also undone by Le Chiffre, but as he will later state, ‘it was worth it, to reveal his tell,’.

It does seem bananas to me that a master poker player like Le Chiffre has such a school boy tell. Scratching one’s face whilst bluffing seems incredibly novice. But I suppose the screenwriters had to incorporate something obvious as it plays such a key part later on.
