Episode 96: Covering mins Min 129 & 130 of Casino RoyaleBond confronts Gettler and the shootout begins.

As Bond enters the house to ‘rescue’ Vesper, he shoots the floating repairs causing the house to sink into the house and crumble around him. Importantly the case is now lost in the water. I like this because why is this important because we get to see Mr White in the end pick it up, and everything was for nothing. Bond has ultimately failed. After all that.

Bond also sees a reflection on the broken glass on the floor to detect where his enemies are situated. I like that Bond trope.

Gettler is played by Richard Sammel, a German actor who has done a lot of television work. According to IMDB

In 2025, Sammel appeared in a prominent supporting role in the second season of the Star Wars series Andor, playing Carro Rylanz, the leader of a resistance group on the planet Ghorman.

From the Blu Ray commentary:

Michael G. Wilson and Martin Campbell:

It was very imaginative that whole concept. The idea that a house would have its foundations with floating repairs, all that came from from Wade and Purvis, a very imaginative idea.

The scene was very realistic and we didn’t have time to storyboard but it came it well. This (the crumbling Venetian house) whole thing was on a hydraulic lift and it went up and down like an elevator. 90 tonnes. It was in the studio at Pinewood on a 20ft water tank . A whole house went in it.

It was all done on the back lot of pinewood, 1/3rd life size ,30 feet high. T

This house was a piece of engineering that was second to none. They could tilt it on its corners it could rock back and forth . Not once did it not work. (It worked) first time every time. In the real Venice canal we actually put those bubbles in. We discussed how are we going to kill Gettler, I said put a goddam nail in his eye. It was in the bad eye so it passed the censor.
