Minute by Minute of Casino Royale continues with Rob Smith, Views From Mark and Lucas Townsend. We discuss the entrance of Vesper, played by Eva Green. You can listen to the full chat and break down on the There Will Be Bond podcast. A weekly podcast on Spotify and iTunes, currently breaking down the minutes of Casino Royale.

As well as some nice interchanges there are some lovely pauses which reflect that each are hitting nerves and peeling back old scabs. When Vesper dismantles Bond and surmises correctly about him being an orphan, the blow is a knockout and Bond doesn’t even reply.

Screenwriter Paul Haggis says in the Blu Ray commentary, ‘Bond wanted a woman that could see through him.’

Of course in this exchange Bond also gets asked what brand of watch he is wearing, ‘easy smiles and expensive watches, Rolex?’

‘Omega,’ Bond replies with a sly grin.

I’m fine with it, I think Eva Green is slightly embarrassed about it because she licks her lips. And turns away

There has been a couple of rumours circulating regarding this line, and below is nothing concrete, just things I’ve picked up from the web;

“The Omega studio asked how much they want to advertise their watch in the movie, the studios replied with a figure. Omega doubled it if they got the line Omega into the dialogue.” – Anon.

“When I asked one of the writers if he was told to put that in, he said he wasn’t just thought it was appropriate.” – Anon.
