We get to see Michael G Wilson producer of the EON films in the background as the Chief of Police that has been compromised by Le Chiffre. It’s one of many cameos that Wilson has made throughout the years in Bond films. There is a terrific biography on Michael G Wilson on the Bond Fan Wiki Website.
Eva Green as Vesper is instructed to wear a Roberto Cavalli dress, specifically made for the film. Bond explains that he needs her ‘looking fabulous so the guys across from you will be more focused on your neckline than they will be their cards.’
A trick he learnt from Demetrius cum the entrance of Solange in previous minutes.
I personally love how nonchalant Bond is here when giving the dress to Vesper. He simply hangs the dress on the back of the bathroom door and says, ‘for you.’
Bare in mind that Bond would have had to (we presume) slip away from the meetings with Mathis and Vesper, done some shopping in his own time and paid a small fortune for a very high end designer dress. He is trying to weaponize Vesper as a distraction which will ultimately benefit him, but its a thinly veiled plan in my opinion. The subterfuge of this gift is that he wants her to look glamourous if she is to be seen on his arm. His vanity wants him to be seen with a beautiful woman.
However, there could also be an argument made for Bond wanting to gift her with something as an early indicator of his growing affection for her. He does this in the most casual way possible.
Vesper takes this all in her stride and allows him to have the upperhand for all of 20 seconds as she says, ‘I’ll do my best,’ knowing that Bond has yet to find a tailored jacket on his bed.
