Today on the show I have Matt Spaiser of Bond Suits on to break down minute 30 of Casino Royale. After I have a running commentary of our visit to Matera, interviewing the locals who were there when the production of No Time To Die was taking place.

You can listen to the show, There Will Be Bond on Spotify and Apple, or link below. Below is a loose transcript of some of the conversation.

Matt Spaiser on the Bad Dialogue of Casino Royale

Not quite as much as the previous minute. I find that one of my issues was Casino Royale is I think the dialogue is extremely weak. And there’s something about this the dialogue between Bond and this receptionist is just something that’s just a bit awkward about it. It’s too ordinary. It’s dialogue. It feels like something you hear in a soap opera.

I think this might be the first thing in the series that has Daniel Craig’s signature line. Could you do me a favor? He says that in a number of his Bond films. And to me. Everyone wanted to do Sean Connery a favor, he never had to ask for a favour.  There are too many flat minutes in this film.

What About the suit?

Let’s talk about the suit as well the wear this suit. Okay, so he’s got the suit jacket off now. In fact, in the blu ray commentary, you can really hear Lindy Hemming for about five minutes talk all about this, which I think is quite interesting. She talks about this shirt being tailor made, you know, has the applet so that you can be confused with the security guards you can be even blend in as it were. You’ve wrote about this suit on your blog map. What what do we need to know about this suit?

Let’s say it’s from Brioni. It’s made of grey linen, but very pale grey linen. It’s was it’s a very unique suit in the series in that it’s a single breasted suit with peak lapels. And that’s something that only we only see that one other time and inspector, but the black herringbone suit.

So that that makes the suit stand out quite a lot to me.

And the rest?

Now, I love that. So here he’s removed the suit jacket. And so he has this, the shirt and and just the suit trousers, that doesn’t often work successfully stylistically, because often suits are just too formal to make too. Just to lose one of the pieces but with linen students that works beautifully. He looks natural in this suit. I mean, just ingested gray linen trousers and the white shirt. So I’m a fan of this look that he’s wearing here. Without the suit jacket. I like it with the suit jacket, too. They’re both great. There’s only one issue I have with this outfit.

Yeah, it’s it’s the belt and the shoes. He’s wearing a black belt and brown shoes. That’s kind of like style. 101 is you don’t do that. And there’s no reason for that here. There’s no reason why he couldn’t be wearing a brown belt. I think the he could have worn black shoes with the gray suit. Although I think the brown shoes work better once he’s removed the jacket.
