Bloody Idiot
He’s called Vesper a bloody idiot, he’s been passive aggressive to the poor bartender, I mean he really is in a fowl mood isn’t he? Screenwriters Robert Wade and Neil Purvis discuss this on the Blu Ray commentary:
This scene is an improvement on the book in that she turns him down when he wants the money she has an important job within in the film in the book she’s Mathis assistant, this is her job in action being tough, being responsible.
There is another layer to it because in reality she is helping the villains because by keeping Bond out of the game that ends his involvement. She’s also trying to save his life, because they don’t need him to die if he’s not in the game. So she’s doing it for his own good and she’s being made to do it by the secret villain. There are so many levels and layers, none of that is in the book.
