Minute 65

We left off minute 64 with Bond and Vesper checking into Hotel Splendide, and Bond has given his real name to the girl on reception. Vesper has signed for the room as she represents the treasury. She’s walked off in a huff.

I disagree with Bond giving up his real identity, you’re a bloody spy mate. Play the f**king part at least. Imagine if Bond rocks up to Piz Gloria and says oh the names Bond, but you’ll find the name under Hilary Bray. If Blofeld is that well connected he won’t mind me checking in and having a go on some of his birds.

He opens up an envelope. Looks like a chunky perspex lighter. But in fact its a key fob. Notice the little bell goes off at check out, when he gets it. Its like brain going ding.

Yea, the DBs. Pretty sweet. Love the glove box Walther setup and medical. Also notice he ejects the mag and press checks the walther before reinserting mag and decocking. An accurate way to show how a disciplined warrior would check his gun, making sure the new weapon is fully loaded with one in the pipe -instead of having him just rack the slide or not check it at all.

Minute 66

So we see left off with Bond just getting into his Aston Martin DBS.

Lets talk a little bit about the Aston Martin DBS, via James Bond Fandom. Com

The DBS V12 was first seen in the 2006 James Bond film Casino Royale, the first film in which Bond was played by Daniel Craig, as a result of a product placement deal with Aston Martin’s parent company at the time, Ford. The car would go on to appear in Quantum of Solace (2008), as well as the video-games Blood Stone (2010), 007 Legends (2012) and the DLC Best of Bond Car (2018).

Aston Martin delivered two working ‘hero’ cars to the film. As well as the two ‘hero’ cars, Aston Martin had to prepare three former development DB9’s for use as DBS look-a-like stunt cars. Also a white prototype DB9 manual was supplied to the film crew so that the stunt drivers had something to practice with.

According to Aston Martin: “The DBS is not of the understated elegance of a DB9, nor the youthful agility of the V8 Vantage. It is explosive power in a black tie and has its own unique character which will equal that of James Bond.”

Bond then drives into Locket, (20 minute drive from Karlovy Vary) takes two glasses of champagne and we meet Rene Mathis

Loket has about 3,100 inhabitants. The town is known for the Loket Castle, a 12th-century Gothic castle. The historic town centre is well preserved and is protected by law as an urban monument reservation.

René Mathis was the cover name of a fictional intelligence operative of the Secret Intelligence Service (SIS/MI6). Based on the literary character from the 1953 Ian Fleming novel Casino Royale, the character first appeared in the 2006 eponymous sequel and its 2008 sequel, Quantum of Solace. He was portrayed by Italian actor Giancarlo Giannini.

Crazy bit of trivia about Giancarlo,

He dubbed Jack Nicholson’s voice in the Italian release of both The Shining and Batman; and is the official Italian dubber of Al Pacino.
