Blade Runner 2049 Online Auction in association with Alcon Entertainment.
This auction features a rare collection of screen-matched costumes and props straight from Alcon Entertainment’s inventory, making it a must-see for collectors and fans alike. Some of the costume pieces include K’s (Ryan Gosling) iconic screen-matched jackets, Rick Deckard’s (Harrison Ford) costumes, and many more mega-rare items from Blade Runner 2049. I think you’ll find some pieces that will definitely pique your interest.
The catalog is now live and available to browse here. I managed to grab an e-inteview with the COO of Propstore, Brandon Alinger.
K’s coat in the film is very iconic, I’ve heard around 15 coats were made for production. Do you know how many and why?
BA: We believe the estimate of 15 is on the high side and the actual number produced is around 10. Some of these were designated for Gosling and some for stunt performers, though ultimately the majority were worn by Gosling at some point in the film. As an example, the end scene costume in the film is marked “Stunt” but is clearly worn on-screen by Gosling. They needed a number of these for the various stages of distressing it goes through in the film, the potential to have both the principal actor and stunt performers wearing them at the same time, and the different configurations (collar up vs collar down) seen in the movie. It features throughout the entire film so its not surprising they had a number of them.
I appreciate the coats don’t have tags and were made for production, do we know who the costume designer used to tailor them?
BA: They were made by a local tailor in Hungary.
Do you find there is a big community of Blade Runner fans/ collectors?
BA: Absolutely – Blade Runner has a very dedicated fan base and is a favorite amongst prop collectors.
How do you manage a database of clients, do you file them in different categories such as Harrison Ford fans, Star Wars fans, Bond fans, or is it just one big email list?
BA: We review client purchase history as well as “favorites” history – Propstore users can save favorite lots from any of our auctions, and can also register to receive notifications when we have new pieces from a given title. Our client outreach is targeted to our buyer interests.
I imagine props and costumes from the first film must be highly sought after now. Have you ever sold props or costumes from the original film?
BA: We’ve sold many pieces from the original Blade Runner over the years. One highlight was an original Deckard costume from the first film, that did very well at auction.
Did you get to pick and choose which props and costumes you wanted to put up for auction?
BA: Curating the auction was a combined effort between Propstore and Alcon Entertainment. Alcon was only prepared to place certain pieces into auction at this time, but we do feel it covers the film extremely well and that fans will be very happy with the range of material on offer.
Is there one item in particular that is exciting the Prop Store team?
BA: There’s a lot! The K coats that you asked about in your opening are certainly one of the highlights of the auction – we also love the K hero blaster that is screen matched, and functional. There are some less obvious answers also – K’s baseline test device is a one-off piece that really speaks to the story of the film, and would look great on someone’s wall….
Can people see these items in person if they request a visit?
BA: Yes, we are taking appointments for viewings and interested bidders can reach out to us through Propstore.com.
