In this article I’m looking to explore Pound for Pound, who is your funniest Bond?
- Will Denis have any room for humour and do we need a lighter Bond than Craig for Bond 26?
- What Bond film do you think is the funniest?
- Have you ever made love to Bond77 and in the throes of passion, take it up a notch by undoing your man bun when the saxophone kicks in? (Don’t answer that, I was just on a roll with the questions).

FAN THEORY
If Connery, Craig are Dalton are more aligned with Fleming’s original interpretation of a cold blooded killer, then are considered ‘Dark Chocolate’. Whereas the more tongue-in-cheek incarnations of Bond portrayed by Moore, Brosnan and to a certain extent Lazenby are deemed ‘Milk Chocolate’.
Whilst I broadly agree with this theory, instead of the chocolate metaphor, I like to lump my Bond actors in the camp of ‘lube’ or ‘no lube’. And we all know lube is the more fun of the two. Connery; no lube. Moore, Pierce; Lube. Craig, Dalton; no lube. Lazenby? Well I think he has lube on the night stand but doesn’t use it.

Will we get a funny Bond this time around?
With Denis Villeneuve set to direct and Stephen Knight onboard to write the next Bond, many fans are wondering exactly what the tone of the next Bond film will be. According to a quick search, we can expect the film will go over the 2hr mark, as Denis’ films average between 2 and 2.5 hours.
What we do know is that the majority of Denis’ films take their time to tell the story. As Mark Kermode says in his review of Bladerunner 2049,
Such existential anxieties are at the heart of Villeneuve’s movie, which has the confidence to proceed at a sedately edited pace utterly at odds with today’s rapid-fire blockbusters.

Although of the Villeneuve films..
..that I have seen, I can’t remember any light touches. However, the new writer Stephen Knight apparently has some pedigree in action comedy. My friend and Bond content creator Alex Lamas says:
I have to highly recommend you guys watch SAS Rogue Heroes, written and created by Stephen Knight. Not only is it the most relevant material he’s done to James Bond, it shows that he can do action comedy. And it’s the best TV show I’ve seen in over a decade!
I’m incredibly optimistic that we’ll get a beautiful looking film, as Villeneuve creates visually incredible landscapes and worlds for his audience and characters to inhabit. And both him and Stephen Knight are of an age where they have experienced the timbre of Bond throughout their cinema experience. Something that the previous director Cary Fukunaga was not privy to due to his age.
