In this episode we talk to Ian Maclean, Managing Director for John Smedley about their involvement in Skyfall. Short interview. (33 mins). Please find the full interview transcribed here.

It’s a short but sweet interview.

Introduction

I open the podcast by talking about Daniel Craig at the Golden Globes and why James Bond shouldn’t be a woman. I know, timely.

You only have to check out the interview on the red carpet to find out why.

Then somehow talk about A Scent of a Woman, I also play some of the tango song Por Una Cabeza on the piano. Here is the awkward dinner scene.

Best Tango song

And this is the Tango song from A Scent of a Woman that I recorded about 8 years ago. Don’t bother subscribing to that channel I’ve given up.

Special Guest

No Matt Spaiser on this episode but Daniel Gaster fills in and talks about Skyfall and all the clothes he bought that are featured in the movie. (7.41 mins)

Some technical issues happened when I recorded so some choppy distortion does occur. Please bare with me as I try and get through the technical glitches.

You can follow Daniel on Instagram. And also a full E-Interview about his personal style here.

No Time to Diary

Alright, every wondered if James Bond could survive that fall at the start of Skyfall?

And indeed a tricky one because to find out whether the fall would kill Bond from a descent of 322ft (the height of the Varda Viaduct) you’d need to go deep and dirty into dark areas of the web, behind paid firewalls that deal with suicide statistics.

I did not do that.

But instead found this on a science forum..

Jumping from 150 feet (46 metres) or higher on land, and 250 feet (76 metres) or more on water, is 95% to 98% fatal.

150 feet/46 metres, equates to roughly 10 to 15 stories in a building, depending on the height of one story.

250 feet is the height of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco.

So before we all start saying ‘oh isn’t Bond far fetched and unbelievable’ we need to take into account that people have survived jumping from the Golden Gate Bridge.

It’s quite possible

AND the world record for a free fall survival without a parachute belongs to a flight attendant in 1972 that fell 33,330 feet after terrorists blew up the airplane onto an ice shelf.

Moneypenny did shoot Bond, there is a sound that connects with Bond and it happens the minute she fires.

But the shot was not fatal, probably collar bone area.

So it’s feasible and well within the realms of possibility that Bond could survive both the shot and the fall.
